Many in Connecticut feel a connection to the state and its localities and can describe a “spirit of place” they came to know growing up. They fondly recall experiences such as poking around streams in search of salamanders, combing freshly plowed farm fields for arrowheads or family day trips to the shore. Such experiences can bring together diverse segments of local communities and advance emerging dialogues about what might be done to ensure that Connecticut remains a place where future generations can form similar sorts of connections with their surroundings. This program explores the notion of “place,” its significance to residents of the state and the potential for spirit of place to inform education, conservation and decision-making that will determine the kind of place Connecticut becomes in the near future. |
